Instructor Requirements

As part of the requirements for instructors they need to have completed the following

Attendance on a BTC Instructor Course is COMPULSORY for all UKTDC instructors to be able to get instructor indemnity insurance cover. Instructors attending the course will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure application form, which will be forwarded by the BTC for processing. If you already have enhanced DBS this is portable and can be used for the BTC element.

The course includes all course material and the fee for applying for the enhanced disclosure. The BTC course includes information on:

  • Members’ Code of Conduct
  • Insurance requirements
  • Child protection
  • Health and Safety
  • DBS clearance

Instructors will also need to complete a BTC Basic Safeguarding Course

Instructors will need Public Indemnity through the BTC. This runs from June to May for all instructors. You can download the application form here. Forms should be sent to the General Secretary Christopher Davies to davies664@gmail.com. For a one-off only please put ‘Pending’ as your instructor number if you have not completed an up-to-date instructor course. Once we have our internal verifiers this will no longer be acceptable and you will need to have completed the instructor course and need to have a BTC instructor number. Payment can be made direct to the UKTDC and we will transfer the money to the BTC, bank details are:

Ideally all instructors should have a First Aid qualification, if not a qualified First Aider in attendance at all times.

All clubs should have a nominated Safeguarding Officer

Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts

BTC Clubs automatically qualify for the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts and can apply for it via the BTC using this form

This is on Safeguarding Code website: https://www.safeguardingcode.com/course/view.php?id=8

If you are affiliated to The British Taekwondo Council you are included in a specific process for the National Governing Body.  As the British Taekwondo Council is in possession of NSPCC Advanced Standards the NGB meets all the requirements of the Safeguarding Code.  British Taekwondo Council clubs do not need to apply to the Safeguarding Code, however in line with the BTC’s good practice around safeguarding, BTC clubs are invited to apply for the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts via the British Taekwondo Council if they so wish.

All club instructors will receive an application form clearly identifying the requirements to achieve the Safeguarding Code and should the club wish to be in possession of the Code and included on the map, the form must be duly completed and signed confirming that you meet all of the requirements. When you return the form to the BTC Lead Safeguarding Officer, the BTC will apply to the Safeguarding Code on behalf of your club.

If you are delivering Taekwondo, but are not a registered instructor with the British Taekwondo Council, please register and begin the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts process.

Members & Instructors registered to the British Taekwondo Council, Member Organisations and Associated Clubs are only insured to attend events within the British Taekwondo Council or any event sanctioned by the BTC or its Member Organisations. Therefore members/instructors who attend events / championships outside of the BTC will not be covered by their BTC Insurance
