British Taekwondo Council

What Is An NGB?

A National Governing Body is responsible for regulating and administering a sport at national level — helping establish standards, develop participation and provide a framework of assurance for clubs, instructors, students and parents.

Stronger Together.
Better For Taekwondo.

The British Taekwondo Council brings together member organisations working to develop and increase participation in Taekwondo in all its forms.

Through recognised governance, structured training, safeguarding, insurance and ongoing development, the BTC provides a framework designed for modern Taekwondo.

The aim is simple: create a safer, better supported and more accountable environment for Taekwondo clubs, instructors and participants.
Your safety. Your confidence. Our priority.

What Does An NGB Do?

An NGB provides the structure, governance and support needed to develop a sport responsibly at national level.

Opening Doors

Many schools, sports centres, councils and private venues require clubs to be registered with a recognised Sport England organisation. They may also request DBS certification, Public Liability Insurance and qualifications.

Assurance & Accountability

Affiliation provides reassurance that essential requirements around insurance, safeguarding, instructor training, welfare and ongoing checks are being addressed.

Recognised Standards

Operating within a recognised governing framework helps clubs demonstrate accountability and meet the expectations of venues, parents, students and other organisations.

Taekwondo belt

Modern Taekwondo Needs More Than A Black Belt.

In today's sporting environment, years of training and a collection of black belts are not, by themselves, a guarantee of competent, responsible and accountable coaching.

Modern coaching also requires appropriate training, safeguarding knowledge, insurance, first aid, DBS checks and an understanding of professional responsibilities.

Standards matter.

Assurance & Accountability

BTC standards are designed to give students, parents, venues and the wider public confidence in the organisations and instructors they engage with.

Insurance
Enhanced DBS / PVG / AccessNI requirements

Not Just A Licence. A Framework Of Standards.

Being part of a recognised National Governing Body provides an additional level of assurance to students, parents, instructors, venue operators and other organisations.

The BTC's role is to help establish the structures, training, governance and systems required for modern Taekwondo.
