Lisa Winteridge (Strike Taekwondo commented) Would just like to say we all thoroughly enjoyed the day & learnt alot. It's very refreshing to have someone such as yourself at the helm of an organisation which believes in the spirit of Taekwondo - it's been a long time coming but the future feels bright for Tkd!! I hope the UKTDC keeps growing...certainly appears to be....
Master Robinson It was good to see you and some of the other UKTDC instructors. The course was enjoyable, informative and well stuctured. It certainly gave food for thought with regard to how well you think you know the poomsae compared to how well you need to know the poomsae and judging criteria to be a competent judge.

7. Commendation of WTF President Choue
The UK Taekwondo Development Council (UKTDC) would like to express its sincerest gratitude for the foresight and recent developments in WTF Taekwondo under the guidance of President Choue, secretary General Yang and all the staff of the WTF. Since Presidents Choue's election there has been a distinct and noticeable change in the openness, transparency, ethical and moral standards coming from the WTF headquarters as President Choue and his staff truly globalise Taekwondo. Taekwondo is a gift to the Martial art / sporting world from the Korean Nation and their willingness to share such an Art with the world can only be seen as a blessing. With the initiatives in place the future of WTF Taekwondo under the guidance of President Choue is looking very bright and secure; with stands taken against injustices and support given to positive initiatives that help create a harmonious world. An all inclusive WTF Taekwondo is what the world needs to see now and your efforts in these matters will promote WTF GLOBALLY. With 3 world Poomsae champions, Para Taekwondo championships, World ranking systems, EBP developments, increased education, open technical meetings, plus increased global participation and MNA's. A redesigned WTF website now in several languages, new committees headed by leaders from around the world on all continents it is clear that President Choue's vision is one of globalisation and unity.
His vision has seen the appointment of sector heads from the “western world” showing that he understands and supports greater western involvement to add to the Eastern philosophies and ways, I would like to commend unreservedly the President, Secretary General and staff of the WTF on behalf of the UK Taekwondo Development Council, (UKTDC) and the WTF practitioners in the UK, I am sure that the NGB and the worlds WTF practitioners would echo my sentiments so on behalf of all in the UK, Congratulations on a marvellous job to date and long may he hold this prestigious office, and may your aspirations and beliefs spread throughout the world in equal amounts for all Sincerely yours
Nigel Hudson: Chairman

Hi Every body, This is important for all players and coaches. The WTF/ETU site has the latest news update.
Amendments of the Competition Rules passed. WTF has concluded the ballots for major amendments of the competition rule. This ballot has been conducted by e-vote over the internet. An overwhelming majority of members voted for the change of the existing competition rules. The major changes are: • competition area will shrink to 8 x 8 m • new point system: 1 point for body hits, 2 points for back kicks to the body, 3 points for head kick • a video review for scoring will be available • the 7 point gap and 12 point ceiling is history • Kyonggos will be added to the opponent instead of being deducted • installation of a video replay system Recommendations for the changes have been discussed at the 'Regulations and Match Rules Reform Meeting' which has been held in December 2008 at Turkey. The new rules will come to effect in the upcoming 2009 World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships in June Some more changes include organizational affairs: • World Taekwondo Academy (WTA) will be responsible for global Taekwondo education, research and development. • The WTF Education Committee changed to WTF Education, Training and Development Committee. • A Technical Committee for Poomsae will be created. Going from strength to strength
We would like to announce that after discussions with independant Martial Arts bodies we have secured their WTF style members from 200 clubs to the UKTDC. This will now bring our membership numbers to an estimated 5000.
This now puts our membership plan well in advance of our intended targets, hitting our 5 year plan in the first 6 months. We are also in discussions with several other groups who have significant levels of membership, including ITF groups who are considering changing style.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the UKTDC is a credible and viable alternative to the NGB and a major force in WTF Taekwondo in the UK.

Introductory seminar
On Sunday evening 23rd November UKTDC instructors in the South West of England held a special two and a half hour ‘introductory’ seminar to encourage more people, especially newcomers to Taekwondo, to become more active in UKTDC events, especially WTF style competition sparring. The session taught by Masters Andy Davies 6th Dan, William Mickleburgh 5th Dan, Martin Beard 5th Dan and instructor Luca De-Mathias 1st Dan attracted some 20 eager students all seeking to learn the finer points of Taekwondo sparring. Master Beard commenced the session with a rigorous warm up and then covered the principles of basic movement and technique after which Master Mickleburgh introduced those attending to evasive action and counter attacking. Everyone then put on protective body armour and Master Davies led the class through a sparring session as well as breaking down techniques and movements to enable them to score points. Although, for most, it was their first experience of full-contact WTF sparring, everyone said that they enjoyed the seminar and were looking forward to the next one.

Sarah Stevenson wins Olympic Bronze**
It was a very mixed day for Sarah with a controversial decision eliminating her from a chance at the gold medal this decision was then reversed, Sarah showed true spirit to conquer the stress and emotions that must have been effecting her, plus her foot injury, to bring home Britain's first Olympic Taekwondo medal.
Sarah also ended the undefeated record in Olympic competition of China's Chen Zhong who was competition favourite.
Aaron Cook put it a magnificent performance which many thought was enough to have seen him progress further than he did.
Well done to the GB competitors and a big congratulations to them all, from all at the UKTDC.
